What if I'm a Material Girl?
Brief:
A self quantified project that uses personal data that I collated in order to emphasise how, as individuals, we do make a difference to the materials economy and consumerism problems that are thriving in todays' society.
Solution:
My research informed me particularly about the shocking environmental problems created by this capitalist society based on constant competition and social hierarchy. The statement of 'not being able to run a linear system on a finite planet' suggests that it's not an option to create a change, it's a must.
Through my data I calculated and organised items into colour, location, travel by plane, and boat (nautical mileage), material content and the amount of usage I get out of each item. I compiled my research into a book with shocking facts and visuals in order to present to consumers what WE are doing to society and the impact that just one person can make, in order to inspire a change to our consumerist habits.
