The Name's...
Archive.
Brief:
A live brief set by the Colophon Foundry with the task of creating a Typographic Specimen to showcase the capabilities of one of their typefaces. My chosen typeface was a contemporary Serif called 'Archive'.
Solution:
I defined the typeface as 'A modern take on a classic style' based on the contemporary twist they've added to the shape of the characters. I took my concept and compared it to James Bond, the way the actors changing throughout the years each brought a modern spin to the role based on society at the time.
The typeface consists of 6 different weights, along with glyphs and ligatures. I thought about the personality that could connote with each weight and assigned a weight to each Bond actor in comparison. E.g. Sean Connery treated women very differently to the way Daniel Craig does today based on the society differences and is also harsher in terms of emotion, to which I assigned him 'Extrabold'. The specimen takes inspiration from recognisable visuals from the films as well as a sleek red, black and grey colour scheme on 160gsm textured paper with a classic red thread saddle stitch along the spine.
