Forget Me Not;
Understanding Dementia.

Brief:

To create an interactive exhibit, requiring use of one or more of the senses, that provoked an emotional reaction. I chose 'Consider' and 'Think' as my emotional reaction with 'Sight' as the sense.

Solution:

Dementia and Alzheimers are cognitive diseases which lead to the deterioration of the brain. I have had many years experience with Dementia and I feel people who haven't experienced it commonly just associate it with memory loss but there's a whole lot more to it than just that. I decided to make the purpose of my exhibit to educate people and make them 'consider/think'.

Thinking of the affordance of the interaction, the natural sense to gravitate towards is touch. I decided to challenge this as Dementia revolves around the memory perceptibility starting as a whole and neurologically degrading causing fragments in the memory, language, conceptions, emotions and effecting many other parts of the personality.

I created an anamorphic type display conceptualising this degradation as the user begins the 180 degree journey through dementia starting and showing how each of the words become fragmented and unrecognisable. As supporting visuals I included clocks inspired by the cognitive tests used to diagnose Dementia and added burnt photos to add a personal aspect.
